Byrne to let destiny take its course
Byrne to let destiny take its course

Kent’s Shane Byrne is taking a pragmatic approach to the Brands Hatch British Superbike finale this weekend, saying he will let destiny take its course and see what happens.

The two-time champion, who has vocalised his dislike of the Showdown system, suffered at Silverstone with a pair of fifths and could only watch as Josh Brookes leapfrogged him in the title chase. He is now 44 points behind John Hopkins with 75 to play for.

“We tested at Cadwell Park to try and get ourselves ahead of the game. We suffered in the previous round at Silverstone, we made some changes there, but didn’t have enough time to do everything. That has not done my title aspirations too much good, but optimism says there are points available and I will fight my absolute hardest for them and then let destiny take its course,” said Byrne.

“I led all of the way to the Cadwell Park round then had bad luck at Donington Park and my worst weekend ever at Silverstone. I’ve had incredibly bad luck in both showdown rounds and who is to say the others will not. I will be trying to be on top of the podium and see where that takes me.”
